Beautifully blown thick glass perfume bottle or paperweight by glassblower Joe Rice. Stamped on the bottom, this bottle with stopper has magnificent cobalt blue internal flowers on top of white clouds and thick bubble inclusions. The stopper is equally as colorful and magnificent.
Rice is a third-generation art-glass blower. He started helping out at his uncles’ glass studio in Indiana when he was 12 years old and began his professional glass career there when he turned 16. At that time his salary was $1 an hour. In 1987 Joe purchased The House of Glass, which he now co-owns with his own daughter.
A self-described production designer, Joe also considers himself to be a glass historian. He enjoys sharing the history of glassmaking with groups of students who often visit the studio. He opens his studio daily to group tours and field trips at no cost.
As per Joe;
“Frequently three generations of family members come to see us introduce the experience to their children.
“They come back to watch us work, connect to the traditions and to learn about the glass.”
