Wonderfully brightly executed painting by Brazilian born Ivald Granato. Signed, titled and dated on the back; “Dry Martini” 1987. Floating in double wood frames painted black.
Granato is a painter, engraver, draughtsman and multimedia artist. He studied painting with Robert Newman in 1966. He then spent a brief period at the School of Fine Arts of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Granato began painting at an early age, drawing his inspiration from Cubist works. During the 1970s, he produced works which presented visceral or phallic images. Granato works with rapid brushstrokes creating figures with imprecise outlines associated with signs, graffiti, graphisms and blotches. He has produced various work styles changing his style of composition with each theme treated. Granato’s works often combine references to daily life but he doesn’t restrict himself to any style or medium.
Born 1949 in Rio de Janiero.
